Shadows Of Guta (Excerpt 100) Preparing

Walking to the kitchen sink, Stephen grabs a dishtowel to dry his face and hair. As he pulls the towel down from wiping his forehead, the small dusty trunk he brought up from the basement catches his eye. It is exactly where he left it, sitting on the kitchen table. An old pirate’s chest, one much smaller than those depicted in movies, is the first thing that comes to mind when he sits down in front of it.

The dark stained wood of the curved lid has black rivets holding it together, as do the four corners of the bottom box section. The lock is broken which in a way is a good thing for he has no idea where the key may be. With both hands on either side of the chest, he sits quietly as if preparing himself for what may be inside.
