Shadows Of Guta (Excerpt 389) To Avoid
“Tamas was asking about Stephen last night.” He hears Zsofia say as he comes up the hallway still out of sight but within earshot.
“Did I hear my name?” Stephen asks as he steps into the room and sits down at the small square table, his eyes on Zsofia.
“It was Tamas, last night he was up, roaming around. When I walked him back to his room he asked about you.” She replies as she looks down at her hands. “He wanted to know if we are friends.” Not once does she look up as she speaks which is out of character for her.
“You told him yes, right?” Stephen questions softly as he tips his head down trying to make eye contact with her.
Zsofia continues to avoid him for several seconds before standing and walking over to the window. Sitting at the table with Stephen, Laszlo looks from his granddaughter and back to Stephen several times before speaking.
“Have I missed something?” The elderly man questions as he watches and waits for Zsofia to reply, but she does not say a word.
